Sebastian Vettel still loves Ferrari and recalls his emotional arrival in Maranello with a tribute post. Five years after leaving Ferrari, Sebastian Vettel pays tribute to his time with the Scuderia.

Sebastian Vettel, Ferrari

Four-time Formula 1 World Champion Sebastian Vettel has never hidden his affection for Ferrari, the team with which he spent six intense and emotional seasons. Despite having left the Italian Scuderia at the end of the 2020 season, Sebastian Vettel continues to show his deep connection to the Prancing Horse. This enduring affection was once again made evident when the German driver dedicated a heartfelt social media post to Ferrari, recalling the emotions of his very first day at Maranello.

The story of Sebastian Vettel and Ferrari is one of the most iconic pairings in recent Formula 1 history. Their journey began in 2015 with a promising podium finish at the Australian Grand Prix and came to an end five years later with a bittersweet fourteenth-place finish at the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix in 2020. Even though their partnership did not yield a world championship title, it left a lasting impression on fans and on the driver himself.

Now, five years after his emotional farewell to Maranello, Sebastian Vettel has taken to social media to share memories of that special time. Accompanying an image of his first test in red, Vettel wrote: “My first day at Maranello…”

Arriving in Italy with an impressive track record—including four consecutive world titles won between 2010 and 2013 with Red Bull Racing—Sebastian Vettel was seen as the ideal driver to lead Ferrari back to the top of Formula 1. His initial performances seemed to confirm those high expectations. In his debut season with the team, Vettel secured three podiums in the first three races, including a victory at the Malaysian Grand Prix—his second outing in the scarlet red car.

Italian fans were filled with hope and anticipation, unaware of the challenges that lay ahead. From 2016 onward, the situation began to shift, largely due to Ferrari’s inability to match the dominant performance of Mercedes. Nonetheless, Vettel and Ferrari still gave their supporters reason to dream. In both the 2017 and 2018 seasons, Vettel managed to keep the championship fight alive well into the second half of the year, offering glimpses of a possible return to glory.

Unfortunately, the 2019 season marked the beginning of the end, and the following year, 2020, would be Sebastian Vettel’s last with the team from Maranello. That final season brought little satisfaction, both for the driver and the Scuderia. Despite the disappointments, Vettel has continued to express gratitude for the experience and remains emotionally connected to Ferrari.

In his recent post, Sebastian Vettel shared vivid memories from his first official day with the team: “Pre-season test. Fiorano Circuit, Italy,” he wrote. “It was a fantastic day to be here. I remember being here a long time ago, as a child, driving past Maranello and trying to peek over the fence. Being here now, officially, as part of the team, is just incredible. Having the opportunity to drive the car and meet the team… it’s a unique experience.”

He went on to describe the overwhelming presence of Ferrari’s identity: “Of course, it’s a very different color for me, compared to what I was used to. Here, everyone is dressed in red—everything is red.”

Sebastian Vettel concluded his reflection with a sense of excitement and purpose: “It’s truly something special, and I can’t wait to embrace the challenge in the coming years.”

The rest, as fans know well, is history—one filled with passion, emotion, and the unbreakable bond between one of Formula 1’s greatest champions and the most iconic team in motorsport.
