Sebastian Vettel’s sporting highlight of the year was Lewis Hamilton’s seventh F1 title win: “But the most important thing at the end of the season is not to have lost a driver. How Romain Grosjean was able to survive this crash almost unharmed is still a mystery to me. That he is still with us, that he is alive, is therefore the moment of the year for me. Everyone has to be aware that the speed at which we are driving is always a risk. You should never regard that accident as proof of the safety of the cars”.
Sebastian Vettel on the new generation of drivers: “It is very difficult to choose, for sure Charles is very fast. What is certain is that this is a different era. The world of karting, all the feeder series as well as Formula 1 have changed. Today young people take themselves a bit too seriously, between smartphones and other things. As a child I used to play with toy cars on the dirt road…But it’s a matter of generations.”
About his time with Ferrari and what he would have done differently:
“It’s easy to say what could have been done differently by thinking about the past. When I arrived, the team was different in terms of people and management. I gained experience, which is precisely what shapes the future, and I have always wanted to be part of this team. Maybe I haven’t been friendly with everyone, but I have been myself. That’s my style. Ferrari will be part of my life. I have grown as a person and I have also learned a bit of Italian. The nice thing is that I don’t have to give these qualities back to anyone, but I keep them for myself. One word to define Ferrari? It is not enough. I have been alongside special people that I will miss, like the red color of the team.”
