The final day of the first pre-season test at the Barcelona-Catalunya circuit turned out to be more demanding than expected for Scuderia Ferrari. Sebastian Vettel completed a total of 100 laps, equivalent to 465.5 kilometres, which was less than planned, because of a problem with the power unit on the SF1000, midway through the morning.
After the morning testing session, Sebastian Vettel and Team Principal Mattia Binotto took part in a press conference, where inevitably the first questions were about the German driver’s future and a possible new contract with the Maranello team: “I still love driving, and I’m here to win. I joined Ferrari to win the championship and we haven’t done so so far. But the determination is there. This is not the right time to talk about my future. But the moment will come. The priority right now is the car! I would appreciate if that was the last question regarding that.” – Sebastian said.
Regarding his feeling with the SF1000 car, the German driver added: “I feel that the car is better in the corners. Especially in the fast corners. For example in Turn 9. It is not just that my neck is now more used to the corners.” – Sebastian joked – “We are generally better in the corners. We have achieved this by putting more downforce on the car. We pay for that on the straights. We generally have to work on the balance of the car. We have shown that we are able to put excellent cars on track, for example in 2017. We have the ability to do a great job, but perhaps the final package has never been the best. The competition is very high.”
Ferrari’s prospects after the first testing sessions do not seem positive, but Sebastian Vettel says there is no reason to panic: “We would like to be in a better position. There is a lot to do, but we know where to start. The season hasn’t even started yet.”
