In a recent interview for leading German automobile magazine Auto motor und sport, Scuderia Ferrari German driver Sebastian Vettel reflects on electric cars on the road and in motorsport:
You prefer twelve cylinders rather than 120 kilowatts from the battery. Are you afraid that in ten years we will not be allowed to drive the cars we grew up with anymore?
Sebastian Vettel: “At some point, these cars we love will not be built anymore. You have to accept that. But I still think that you can drive around with the old cars. Everything else would be a crime.”
Have you ever driven an electric car?
Sebastian Vettel: “Yes, a few years ago. I am not an opponent of the transport from A to B. But I do not believe that electric cars solve all the problems of this world. In my opinion, it’s the wrong technology. Too expensive, not as clean as some make it out to be. Think of the problem of disposing of the batteries. Because it does not stink locally, people are pleased. But it stinks somewhere else.”
And in motorsport?
Sebastian Vettel: “You have to seperate it. What we do is entertainment. And that’s where emotions belong. If only a laser show is offered at a rock concert, something is missing. I go there because of the music. Then the question is which show every single one wants to see.”
