Sebastian Vettel press conference ahead of the 2018 Japanese GP. Seb took part in Thursday's press conference.

Scuderia Ferrari German driver Sebastian Vettel joked he would rather throw bananas out of his cockpit than have DRS in Formula One. Seb is heading into the Japanese Grand Prix this weekend 50 points behind title-rival Lewis Hamilton. The Suzuka track only has one DRS zone which makes overtaking on the long straights that little bit more difficult.

In current rules, if a driver is within one second behind the car in front they are allowed to active DRS on certain sections of the track to reduce the downforce and overtake quickly. However, having just one DRS zone in Japan is not a problem for Vettel as he would rather have real-life Mario Kart advantages than a ‘go-faster’ button: “I am not a fan [of DRS],” Vettel said at this morning’s press conference – “I am not sure if you remember Mario Kart but I would rather throw bananas out of the cockpit than have DRS.”

Sebastian Vettel finished third at the Russian Grand Prix last weekend behind both of his Mercedes rivals, but the German is hoping for an improved performance this time around to try and keep his World Championship hopes alive: “Within a week you can’t do too many things differently so we hope the track suits us a bit better. I think we managed to squeeze everything out of the car. Hopefully we were a bit closer so let’s see where we start off here. First of all I think you always enjoy racing somebody on track and you always enjoy it when you come out ahead. I am sure he (Hamilton) had much more fun last weekend than I had. Obviously it is tough to have a wheel-to-wheel battle on the track but if you do then you appreciate it a lot more. I think there have been intense and challenging races but not that much wheel-to-wheel racing. I enjoyed it but I would have liked more laps – that was the only chance that we had.” – Scuderia Ferrari German driver Sebastian Vettel concluded, ahead of the 2018 Japanese GP.
