Scuderia Ferrari German driver Sebastian Vettel has continued the tradition of naming his Formula One cars, christening his 2018 Ferrari “Loria” (Etymology – from the Latin “laurus” which means laurel tree or (metonymically) laurels; a crown of laurel). Seb’s habit of naming his cars has become a popular one in F1 and stretches back to 2008, when he named his Toro Rosso ‘Julie’. The names have become more adventurous in the years since.
His switch to Ferrari in 2015 was marked with ‘Eva’, which he took to three race wins, before opting for more Italian flavour with ‘Margherita’ for the less memorable SFH-16, which failed to claim a race victory.
According to German newspaper Bild, Vettel has opted to name the SF71H “Loria”. If pre-season form is anything to go by, Seb and Loria will be in a strong position to challenge for the championship in 2018 after a very encouraging winter for Ferrari.
Here is a list Sebastian Vettel’s car names since entering the fray in 2008:
2008: Julie (Toro Rosso)
2009: Kate and Kate’s Dirty Sister (Red Bull)
2010: Luscious Liz (Red Bull)
