Sebastian Vettel has not closed the door on a future comeback in Formula 1. “I haven’t given up on the idea yet,” he said, reminding fans that his passion for racing remains strong. When the four-time world champion stepped away from Formula 1 at the end of the 2022 season, he never fully dismissed the possibility of returning to the top category. Today, that question is resurfacing: is there truly a chance that Sebastian Vettel could come back?
The German driver continues to attract attention. Sebastian Vettel remains a central figure in the paddock and does not exclude a sensational return to competition. He confirmed it himself during the podcast Beyond the Grid on Formula1.com, stressing that the possibility of getting back behind the wheel has not disappeared at all.
“I don’t know if a return can be completely ruled out. I haven’t fully closed the idea yet,” Sebastian Vettel said, highlighting how strong the pull of racing still is. That feeling was reignited last year when he tested the Porsche 963 in the WEC, an experience that deeply excited him. “It was fun. I like the fact that in endurance you share the car and there is a real team spirit, different from F1 where you are always fighting against each other.”
The Heppenheim driver confirmed that he had discussions in the past with Porsche about a possible move to the World Endurance Championship, although no concrete agreement was reached. However, he does not rule out that a future opportunity could convince him to return. “I’m getting older, but I’m not old. I’m still in very good shape because I love sport,” added the 38-year-old driver.
Last spring, Sebastian Vettel completed a demanding Hypercar test at MotorLand Aragón, running 118 laps for more than 580 km. It was an experience that allowed him to measure the differences from Formula 1 after a 17-year career at the highest level.
Although he admits he misses certain moments from his life as a Formula 1 driver, Sebastian Vettel made it clear that he does not long for everything that modern F1 requires. “At Suzuka, two years ago, watching qualifying I wished I was in the car. But on Sunday, seeing the heavy cars and the tyres to manage, that part I didn’t miss.”
The future remains open: Sebastian Vettel has not definitively closed the F1 chapter.
At 38, with 53 grand prix victories and four titles to his name, Sebastian Vettel still has options. And for now, the chapter marked “F1 return” remains very much open.
