With less than two weeks until the start of the 2017 Formula 1 season, Sebastian Vettel is confident that Scuderia Ferrari has a good chance to challenge Mercedes and Red Bull Racing and bring back the title to Maranello for the first time after ten years. The German driver was recently interviewed by weekly sports magazine Sport Bild and confirmed that the Italian team is satisfied with the progress of the SF70H and he believes in the possibility of fighting for the Formula 1 world title in 2017:
“Yes! If not, I wouldn’t go to the grid.” – Sebastian Vettel replied – “This is what we have worked for during the winter and even from last year. All I can say is that the spirit in the team is very good, everyone is working for everyone else’s benefit and we will definitely do our best to challenge the current champions.” – the German driver added.
After the impressive performance and strong paces from the two pre-season testing seasson that concluded last week at the Circuit de Catalunya in Spain, Scuderia Ferrari appears to be in a good position to give Mercedes and Red Bull a run for their money, but the four-time Formula One world champion still remains cautious when asked to comment on the Maranello team’s results from testing or Formula 1’s pecking order at the start of the 2017 F1 season: “For now it is impossible to predict anything. Even the tests in Barcelona just give a basic idea where you stand. And we’ll only have real clarity after three or four races of the year. As always, in Formula 1 only results count.” – Sebastian Vettel concluded, as reported by Sport Bild magazine.
