Scuderia Ferrari German driver Sebastian Vettel took over from Charles Leclerc on Friday, after the Monegasque went fastest for the Maranello team yesterday, completing Ferrari’s programme and bringing the pre-season testing session to a close at the Circuit de Catalunya in Barcelona, as the four-time Formula 1 world champion kept the Scuderia ahead with another new fastest time of pre-season.
However, Scuderia Ferrari encountered another reliability problem, as the SF90 car stopped on the track due to an electrical issue with less than two hours until the end of the afternoon session in Barcelona. Not a pleasant end to the two weeks for the team who have enjoyed a faster winter than anyone. Despite the strong pace shown during the pre-season testing sessions at the Circuit de Catalunya, the Maranello team will not be completely satisfied with the outcome and will be hoping to fix these reliability problems as soon as possible, with less than two weeks until the first race.
Today was therefore the last day for Formula One teams to rack up mileage before the start of the 2019 Formula One season. The opening round is set to be held on 17 March at the Albert Park Grand Prix Circuit in Melbourne, a week earlier than recent years.
