A ‘homecoming’
Sebastian Vettel will return to racing—not in Formula 1, as rumors sometimes suggest, nor in other categories. Instead, he will participate in an event that has always been special for him: the Race of Champions.
This exhibition race, which traditionally kicks off the motorsport season, will take place in Sydney on March 7-8, 2025. Sebastian Vettel has confirmed his participation alongside his friend Mick Schumacher. The pair will represent Team Germany in the traditional team race, one of the most spectacular highlights of the event.
The bond between Sebastian Vettel, the Schumacher family, and the Race of Champions is particularly strong and meaningful. The four-time world champion has won the event eight times, claiming victory in the individual race in 2015 and seven times in the team event. From 2007 to 2012, he partnered with Michael Schumacher for six of those wins, while in 2017, his last triumph, he raced alongside Pascal Wehrlein.
In 2022 and 2023, the former Red Bull and Ferrari star teamed up with Michael’s son, Mick Schumacher, but they did not manage to reach the top of the podium. This year, the duo will try again, aiming to break the winning streak of the Norwegian father-son team of Petter and Oliver Solberg.
“I’m really happy to return to the Race of Champions and to do it with Mick. Besides, I think Sydney is a beautiful location for this competition. I’m excited that the ROC is becoming increasingly green, as we saw in the last edition in Sweden. All the drivers who take part in these races fall in love with it immediately because it reminds us why we started: pure competition. The cars are the same, and there are no excuses. I’ll do everything I can to help Germany win the team cup, but I won’t hold back against Mick in the individual finals. He beat me last year!” said Sebastian Vettel. “This year’s goal is to win after a series of podiums. I can’t wait to meet up with the other drivers and have fun together,” added Mick Schumacher.
