Carlos Sainz Sr. stated that Ferrari has informed him they are happy with the performance of the Spaniard, whose current contract expires at the end of the 2024 Formula One championship.
Carlos Sainz, renewal close
Carlos Sainz and Scuderia Ferrari are continuing discussions about contract renewal. The Spanish driver and his entourage want to remain in Maranello, and the team also seems inclined to confirm him beyond the 2024 expiration. At least, this is the message conveyed to #55’s father, the legendary rally driver Carlos Sainz Sr.
Comments from Sainz Sr.
“From Ferrari, they have let us know that they are happy with Carlos, at least that’s what they told us,” said the driver to the Spanish radio COPE. “I imagine that the renewal discussions, which have already started, will continue at the beginning of 2024; we’ll see what comes out.”
Carlos Sainz’s contract
Carlos Sainz’s priority is to stay at Ferrari; only in a secondary scenario would potentially risky options come into play (Sauber – future Audi – and Aston Martin).
During the Christmas lunch with journalists, Team Principal Frederic Vasseur admitted to being behind in contract negotiations because the entire team (including drivers) had to focus on achieving second place in the constructor’s standings, an objective missed in Abu Dhabi. The Frenchman initially intended to conclude discussions in 2023, but now the deadline has shifted by a few months. The goal is to announce the renewals by the beginning of the 2024 Formula One season to set the tone for the season as smoothly as possible.
