After 150 GPs in Formula 1, the time has come for Carlos Sainz to also celebrate his first victory, which the Ferrari driver secured last weekend at the Silverstone circuit in the British Grand Prix. The Spaniard, who had also scored his first pole position in Formula 1 the previous day, is therefore at a turning point in his career, and is now targeting a series of successes following the weekend of the British Grand Prix. This, at least, is the opinion of the Ferrari driver’s father, Carlos Sainz Senior.
The former rally driver, two-time world champion in the early 90s, believes that success in England could contribute to a qualitative leap for his son in Formula 1, a bit like what happened in the course of his career after the first appearances in rally: “There have been many people who have supported Carlos, who have been present all these years – he said in an interview with DAZN – the important thing is that he continues to work and understand the car better. He’s still missing something, but he’s getting closer. I remember when I first won in Acrópolis, I too was coming close to winning for some time, but from then on it was a total change. I am convinced that after Silverstone there will be a before and an after, and this win will help him to be more confident. I got nervous when they told him to save 3% of fuel” – he admitted.
Unlike other GPs, where he was physically present at the circuits to support his son, Sainz Senior was absent at Silverstone on the most special day. The hope, however, is to see his son again soon on top of the podium, maybe already in Austria, which hosts the next round of the 2022 Formula 1 championship: “This time it was not possible – admitted the Spaniard – but it was a complicated GP, also because behind Carlos there were cars with fresh tyres. Charles Leclerc was unlucky with the tires while he was in the lead. I will then speak with Carlos to tell me how it went ” – Carlos Sainz Senior concluded.
