Ross Brawn among top candidates to replace Mattia Binotto as Ferrari team principal. Ross Brawn among top candidates to replace Mattia Binotto.

The story linked to the future of Mattia Binotto in Ferrari is becoming more and more an enigma for Formula 1 fans. The team principal, who apparently resigned on Friday, actually held a meeting yesterday regarding the 675 project, the Formula 1 car for 2023 season. All this makes the situation extremely tangled and delicate, as the rumors are circulating insistently on the web and on social networks. Among the potential names indicated by the media to replace the Italian manager was that of Andreas Seidl. However, the German motorsport engineer and manager, currently the team principal of McLaren, politely declined the offer. The most probable replacement the moment remains the current Alfa Romeo team principal Frederic Vasseur, even if a new name has appeared in the last few hours.

According to the Italian daily newspaper “La Stampa”, former Ferrari technical director Ross Brawn is also on the list of potential replacements for Mattia Binotto, even if it remains a suggestive and complicated idea.

So far, the name of the British manager has not been reported by many Italian or international media outlets and probably remains a very difficult option for Ferrari. However, he remains a very high-profile candidate who has certainly showed in the past that he can make Ferrari a top team. Ross Brawn, in fact, was the team’s technical director at the time of Michael Schumacher’s domination, flanked by equally successful names such as Rory Byrne and Jean Todt. In fact, the latter had been strongly linked to a return to Maranello at the beginning of the 2022 Formula 1 season, but the management then opted to keep only Mattia Binotto at the top of the company’s sporting division.

Ross Brawn, after his experience with Ferrari, was the main responsible for the amazing and unexpected world championship victory of the Brawn GP team in 2009, thanks to the great idea of the double diffuser devised by him. Subsequently, with the rebranding from Brawn GP to Mercedes, the Englishman was team principal of the Brackley team until 2013. Currently, he holds the role of Formula 1 director.

“Fred Vasseur remains a candidate to succeed Mattia Binotto, even if his name has led to some perplexity in the Formula 1 paddock. An alternative possibility is the ad interim appointment of the CEO of Ferrari, Benedetto Vigna, and the appointment of a technical director, a role canceled by Mattia Binotto. Benedetto Vigna himself, in an interview with CNBC taken on Wednesday and presented by the media yesterday, quoted Enzo Ferrari’s motto: The runner-up is the first of the losers”. The Andreas Seidl idea, who is now head of McLaren, seems to have dropped. While the option of Ross Brawn’s return, who was technical director at the time of Michael Schumacher’s era and is now working as a Formula 1 director, appears suggestive”, reports Stefano Mancini for La Stampa.
