At the end of the European triple header, Ferrari sits second in the 2025 Formula 1 Constructors’ Championship. An unexpected and inexplicable result for those who at Imola had not even managed to reach Q3, but it reflects the variability of modern Formula 1: in one race you can be fighting for the podium, and in the next not even finish in the points without an obvious reason. Or rather, there is a reason, found in many small details, ranging from the type of tyre compound to the track surface temperature, which are impossible to predict. And those who win, like McLaren now or Red Bull before, are the ones who manage not to be affected by these changes, building a car with a very wide operating window.
It seems that the world of calculations, software, and high engineering almost becomes a casino game, as Riccardo Patrese also indicated: “There are contradictions in performance. Ferrari was nonexistent at Imola, it even failed to make Q3, but then on Sunday it defended itself. What happened from one day to the next is unknown, maybe even to them. It’s unclear whether a new soft tyre works better than a used one, and no one is even sure what to do in qualifying.” However, the former driver urged Ferrari’s two leading drivers not to give up. “The feelings can be different, but a driver of a certain calibre has to manage them. You cannot expect to always have a perfect, winning car,” the Italian explained on the podcast Terruzzi Racconta.
