World championship leader Max Verstappen was in a league of his own in the qualifying session for the 2022 Canadian Grand Prix on Saturday and will therefore start from pole position in today’s race at the Circuit Gilles Villeneuve.
Lining up alongside him on the front row will be the Alpine of Spanish driver Fernando Alonso, who once again showed he remains one of the top drivers by using his experience and skills to take advantage of the weather conditions in qualifying to secure a surprising but well-deserved second place.
Ferrari driver Carlos Sainz will line up third for the Maranello team, ahead of Mercedes’ Lewis Hamilton, who in Montreal scored his best qualifying result this season and will therefore start from fourth place.
Max Verstappen’s Red Bull teammate Sergio Perez will start only 13th after suffering a crash in qualifying at the Circuit Gilles Villeneuve, while Scuderia Ferrari Monegasque driver Charles Leclerc will have an even more difficult task today, having to start the Canadian Grand Prix from 19th due to several penalties after exceeding his permitted power unit component usage this weekend.
