Scuderia Ferrari Monegasque driver Charles Leclerc will start the 2022 French Grand Prix from pole position at the Circuit Paul Ricard in Le Castellet, Var, near Marseille after a great final Q3 lap to beat his title rival Max Verstappen in yesterday’s qualifying session.

The Monegasque was also helped by some great teamwork, as his Maranello teammate Carlos Sainz gave him a tow in Q3, with Charles setting the fastest lap time of 1:30.872, 0.304 seconds ahead of Max Verstappen who will start the race from second place.

Max Verstappen’s will be followed by his Red Bull teammate Sergio Perez, while Lewis Hamilton and Lando Norris start from fourth and fifth.

While Carlos Sainz reached Q3 on Saturday, the Spanish driver already knew he would start the French Grand Prix from the last row as a result of a new power unit which meant he had to take several penalties. He will be joined by Haas’ Kevin Magnussen, who has also been penalised for exceeding his allowed usage of several engine parts
