Release date set for Formula 1 film starring Brad Pitt. Apple's Formula 1 film with Brad Pitt has a release date.

Apple’s Formula 1 film has a release date set for June 25, 2025, while production continues to shoot at 2024 F1 events after delays caused by last year’s Hollywood actors’ strike.

The untitled film, directed by Joseph Kosinski following his success with “Top Gun: Maverick” and produced by Jerry Bruckheimer, was originally scheduled for release next June.

Now, the global theatrical release date has been confirmed, after which it will be available on Apple TV.

The film will be available in international markets on June 25, 2025, before its North American release two days later, on June 27, 2025.

An F1 press release announcing the film’s release dates states: “The global theatrical release will also include IMAX theaters.”

“The crystal-clear images, along with IMAX’s customized theater geometry and powerful digital audio, create a unique environment that will make audiences feel like they are in the film.”

The film stars Brad Pitt as a former F1 driver who returns to race for the fictional team APXGP alongside a rookie driver played by Damson Idris.

Seven-time F1 world champion Lewis Hamilton is a producer on the project, and the Mercedes driver also contributed to the film’s script.

Speaking at the 2023 Las Vegas Grand Prix, Hamilton revealed that last year’s strike—initiated by SAG-AFTRA (the Screen Actors Guild – American Federation of Television and Radio Artists) in response to various issues, including studios’ use of AI technology instead of real actors—caused the cancellation of filming key scenes at that event.

“If there hadn’t been a strike, we would have shot one of the coolest scenes here this weekend,” Hamilton said in Las Vegas.

“But we’ll keep filming next year, so you’ll still see them around. We’ve already got some great footage, they’ve done a great job, as all the F1 drivers saw in Austin (2023).”

“We’ll continue to make progress. It will still be great, it might cost a bit more but I am really confident in what Jerry will produce.”

Hamilton also explained that during the strike, filming at some 2023 F1 races continued using only the “stunt crew,” while the focus was on capturing footage of the event’s setting and atmosphere.

Work on the project has continued in recent weeks using the Formula 2 car that Mercedes modified with APXGP’s colors, including at Silverstone when it hosted the launch of the Conservative Party’s manifesto for the upcoming UK general elections.

The F1 press release states that film production “will continue at this year’s British GP and several other races, concluding with the Abu Dhabi GP in December.”

It has been suggested that other races where filming will take place throughout the season will include Hungary, Belgium, Mexico, and Las Vegas, while filming has already occurred at the Japanese race in April.

There is also renewed interest in the film’s final budget, which is rumored to have risen to over $300 million, making it one of the most expensive films ever made.

This is partly due to the shooting hiatus caused by the SAG-AFTRA strike, as filming done during the 2023 F1 events featured car designs, liveries, and sponsor logos that no longer match the respective 2024 updates.
