Rafael Câmara will step up to Formula 1 with Haas in 2027, adding another Ferrari-linked young driver to the grid and inevitably increasing attention on the long-term future of Lewis Hamilton at Maranello.
The Brazilian’s promotion had been the subject of paddock speculation for some time, but his move is now official. Câmara will join Haas after progressing through the junior categories and spending several years under Ferrari’s watch, having entered the team’s Driver Academy in 2022. His arrival creates an intriguing pairing with Oliver Bearman, another highly rated Ferrari prospect already closely associated with the Scuderia’s future plans.
Rafael Câmara gives Ferrari another future option
Câmara’s route into Formula 1 strengthens the idea of Haas becoming an important development platform for Ferrari-affiliated talent. With both the Brazilian and Bearman in the same team, their performances will offer a direct comparison between two drivers who could eventually emerge as candidates for a future Ferrari seat.
That possibility is particularly relevant when considering the longer-term outlook for Lewis Hamilton at Ferrari. The seven-time world champion is in the latter stages of his Formula 1 career, and the expectation presented around his future is that he could ultimately choose to retire while still racing for the Maranello team.
There is no suggestion that an immediate driver change is planned, but Câmara’s promotion gives Ferrari another young option to evaluate over the coming seasons. Much will depend on how he performs against Bearman once the two are competing together at Haas.
Oliver Bearman rivalry could become important for Ferrari
The prospect of Rafael Câmara and Oliver Bearman sharing a garage adds another layer to Ferrari’s long-term driver planning. Both have been developed with Ferrari links, and their head-to-head performance could help determine which driver is better placed to become a future candidate for the Scuderia.
Lewis Hamilton’s position is not the only one viewed through that longer-term lens. Charles Leclerc remains central to Ferrari’s future, but the emergence of new talent inevitably increases competition around the team’s eventual driver choices.
The suggestion is that Leclerc’s position remains extremely strong, while the more obvious long-term opening could come whenever Hamilton decides to end his Formula 1 career. That makes the progress of Câmara and Bearman particularly relevant as Ferrari assesses which young drivers are capable of making the next step.
2027 driver market already beginning to move
Câmara’s confirmation at Haas also adds momentum to a 2027 Formula 1 driver market that is already becoming increasingly active during the final third of the 2026 season.
For now, any suggestion that Rafael Câmara or Oliver Bearman could eventually replace Lewis Hamilton remains speculation. The decisive factor will be their performance on track, particularly once they are competing directly against each other in Formula 1. But Ferrari will now have two closely linked young drivers at Haas, giving the team a valuable opportunity to assess potential successors over time.
