Plans for the inaugural Russian Grand Prix first came to prominence 11 years ago, with construction of the venue falling under the design supervision of Hermann Tilke. The circuit itself varies in width from 13 metres at its narrowest point to 15 metres at the start-finish line. Running in a clockwise direction, the layout consists of 12 right-hand and seven left-hand corners and combines both high-speed and technical sections. Therefore Sochi Autodrom is effectively a street circuit, evolving out of the internal roads of the park built for the city’s 2014 Winter Olympics.
Follow us later in the afternoon for the latest news, info, updates and live results from the Sochi Autodrom, as the second free practice session for the 2021 Russian Grand Prix is about to get underway, with Carlos Sainz and Charles Leclerc at the wheel of the Maranello team’s SF21, ready to continue evaluating the ideal set-up ahead of qualifying and the Russian event.
