During the last few days, in the Spanish media, he controversy towards Ferrari has risen over the three mistakes of the last races regarding the tire changes of Carlos Sainz. In the United States Grand Prix, the men from Maranello had to record the negative 5″6 stop on car number 55, but also the fastest one of the race – 2″24 – during the Spanish driver’s first pit stop. Mattia Binotto did not hide in the interviews and admitted that the pit stops are proving to be “the Achilles’ heel” for the Prancing Horse and that therefore everything possible will be done to minimize the margin of error.
Today’s edition of Corriere dello Sport analyzed Scuderia Ferrari’s pit stops, putting them in relation with the other nine teams and in particular with Mercedes and above all Red Bull, a true reference point for Formula 1 in this sector: “Globally, Ferrari is not in bad shape when it comes to the execution of the pit stops. The average duration this season is 2″58 and puts Ferrari in sixth place among the teams, but the repetition rate of stops below three seconds – considered this is generally considered the limit between good and critical pit stops – sees the Maranello team in third place behind Mercedes and Red Bull. The ranking says that the German team, performing 82% of stops under three seconds, has just overtaken Red Bull (79%), while the Maranello team is on 73%”.

The study revealed other interesting data, with Red Bull at the top both as an absolute speed record (1 ″ 82 with Max Verstappen at the 2019 Brazilian Grand Prix) and seasonal (1 ″ 88 with Max Verstappen at the Bahrain GP). The Anglo-Austrian team also monopolizes nine positions out of ten of the best tire changes made during the current season, a ranking in which the top 5 is entirely occupied by Max Verstappen with stops between 1 ″ 88 and 1 ″ 98. There is also a ranking of imperfect pit stops, which sees Mercedes with 18% of stops over 3″ 5, followed by Ferrari at 16%. Finally, the Italian newspaper highlighted the improvement of the red team, this year capable of making 73% of pit stops under three seconds, after just twelve months ago it settled at 48%, with an average stop time of 2″ 72 , which placed Ferrari in the penultimate place among the Formula One teams.
