Pirelli has revealed the tire compounds it will bring to the first 3 Grand Prix (Bahrain, Saudi Arabia, and Australia) of the 2024 F1 World Championship. The major update is the softer tires for Melbourne.
Shortly after the conclusion of the 2023 Formula 1 World Championship, Pirelli decided to unveil the tire compounds for the first three events of the 2024 season, namely the Bahrain, Saudi Arabia, and Australia Grands Prix.
All 5 compounds approved by Pirelli for the upcoming season (with the C0 having disappeared, as previously mentioned by the Italian manufacturer a few weeks ago) will be used in the first 3 events.
While Pirelli has maintained the same compounds used in 2023 for the Middle East events, the significant change will be for the Australian Grand Prix.
At Albert Park in Melbourne, the three softest compounds in the range will be used, with C3 serving as Hard, C4 as Medium, and C5 as Soft.
For the Bahrain Grand Prix, the first race of the season scheduled from February 29 to March 2, Pirelli will provide C1, C2, and C3 due to the demanding characteristics of the Sakhir track.
As for the Saudi Arabian Grand Prix taking place a week later in Jeddah, C2, C3, and C4 have been confirmed.
In Sakhir, all drivers will have access to the 5 compounds approved for 2024 during the pre-season tests from February 21 to 23.
From that occasion onwards, the Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) logo will appear on the tires, ensuring the complete traceability of raw materials from forests throughout the supply chain. This certification guarantees that plantations providing natural components for the tires are managed to preserve biodiversity, benefit local communities and workers, and promote economic sustainability.
