Ferrari stayed in Hungary to test the 2022 tires. A busy morning for Charles Leclerc, after the Hungarian Grand Prix ended quickly for the Monegasque driver, hit in turn 1 by Lance Stroll and forced to park his disintegrated SF21 on the track. A disappointing outcome for Charles Leclerc, who will have to change the engine at Spa and will no longer have wild cards for the rest of the year. Charles Leclerc had to put this disappointment behind him to focus on 2022 again and completed 91 laps at the Mogyorod circuit with 18-inch tires that will debut next year.
The #16 car tested a series of dry prototype compounds. These types of sessions of course mainly serve the official tire supplier to acquire data, but they also allow the drivers involved to get a very first taste of what awaits them in terms of grip starting next year. In the afternoon, Carlos Sainz joined him, accumulating 82 laps, bringing today’s total of Ferrari to 173 laps.
The 2022 tests were not only completed by Scuderia Ferrari alone: there were also McLaren and Mercedes: McLaren took part in the testing session with its starting drivers, which accumulated 122 laps, while George Russell, with 137 laps, drove for the reigning champions.
