Pirelli’s existing agreement with Formula 1 as official tyre supplier is available only until the end of the upcoming championship and a tender is currently underway to select the next tire supplier, with Pirelli and Bridgestone in the running for the 2025-2027 period.
According to the latest information reported by F1 journalist Piergiuseppe Donadoni for formu1a.uno, the Italian tyre manufacturer enjoys a degree of certainty on their side, which is a significant advantage in a sport where regulations and restrictions are becoming increasingly stringent. Meanwhile, Bridgestone has been focusing on making a compelling financial proposal.
No official call has been made yet, and there is no specific deadline set by the FIA to decide on this matter. Yet it is expected that a decision will be made later this month, unless there are any delays, and this decision will have significant implications for the next few weeks.
A few days ago, the F1 Commission decided against the introduction of slick tires without tire warmers for the 2024 Formula 1 campaign, preferring to stick with the original plan of implementing them only from the 2025 championship.
During the meeting held at the 7.004-kilometre Circuit de Spa-Francorchamps in Stavelot, Belgium, Pirelli presented the current state of tire development, and all the clear goals set for July have been successfully achieved, as acknowledged in the official FIA press release. However, the tires are not fully ready yet, and Pirelli plans to complete their development after further testing of about 7-8000km by the end of the year. The target is to have the finished product ready for homologation by the end of the current year.

The F1 Commission, through mutual agreement and without a formal vote, opted to maintain the current plans and postpone the removal of tire warmers until the 2025 F1 campaign.
Now, Pirelli needs to assess whether any changes are necessary for 2024, a process that is mainly relying on simulation data from the teams. The development program for slick tires without tire warmers will continue, even beyond December, but this will only happen if Pirelli remains the official Formula 1 tire supplier for the 2025-2027 period.
