Pierre Gasly confirms Lewis Hamilton – Ferrari deal “was kept secret for quite a long time”. Pierre Gasly has admitted he knew about Lewis Hamilton being in talks with Ferrari.

French racing driver currently competing in Formula One for Alpin, Pierre Gasly, recently disclosed that he was privy to the negotiations between Lewis Hamilton and Scuderia Ferrari, asserting that it was confidential for an extended period.

The revelation of Lewis Hamilton’s unexpected move from Mercedes to the Maranello for the 2025 season shocked the F1 community a few days ago, as there were no hints or indications leading up to the official announcement made the the two teams.

During the unveiling of Alpine’s 2024 Formula 1 car, Pierre Gasly emphasized that he had knowledge of Lewis Hamilton’s discussions with Ferrari long before the information became public.

“Obviously, he’s been a long time with Mercedes, but I was aware of some talks with Ferrari. Ultimately, he’s towards the end of his career. So it was either now or never. I think it was kept secret for quite a long time. I just wish him the best. Obviously, it’s sort of exciting with the driver market, and all of you guys come with it, which is normal. But I think ultimately, for the sport, he is the most successful driver of all time joining a new project, a new challenge. I’m sure everybody will follow that very closely.” – the French driver pointed out.

Pierre Gasly recognized that Lewis Hamilton joining creates a more complex scenario for Carlos Sainz, who will be without a seat at the conclusion of the 2024 F1 championship. The French driver emphasized that at times this sport isn’t inherently equitable.

I think Ferrari and Lewis took it together. Obviously, it leaves Carlos in a trickier situation.
