The change of pace took place this winter in terms of drivers, at least from the actual point of view since it was already known that Carlos Sainz was going to join Ferrari from before the 2020 season started. With the departure of Sebastian Vettel, the average age of the Ferrari drivers suddenly dropped and in the long term the choice could prove to be in favor of the Maranello team. Even if for this year it will probably not be useful for the fight against the world championship, given that such a result will be difficult to obtain.
The pair of drivers is also very interesting for Piero Ferrari: the son of founder Enzo sees a good strength in this sense: “I like the drivers very much. Charles Leclerc is young but he is already a guarantee. Carlos Sainz is new to us, obviously I know him less but I know that he has integrated well into the team.”- Piero Ferrari told Italian newspaper based in Bologna ‘Resto del Carlino’.
The Spaniard is the new one who advances, but he and his family have done and are doing everything to be more and more involved in the adventure in Maranello: “His father, Sainz senior, the rally driver, called me. It was very nice, he made history in rallies and now he has a son in a Ferrari. It’s a combination and a story that intrigues me” – explained the 75-year-old, who in a certain sense and with due proportions can be recognized in the role of the heir given the weight of his surname.
Unfortunately for Carlos Sainz, however, it could be a complicated season and far from the top. There will presumably be other drivers up there fighting. Such as Lewis Hamilton: “Lewis doesn’t need to prove anything, a title more or less does not add or detract from his greatness. He is certainly the favorite, together with Max Verstappen.” – Piero Ferrari concluded.
