No crazy expectations. Piero Ferrari, ahead of the start of the 2021 Formula 1 season, is putting his hopes in the concrete commitment of the Maranello team’s men. And just like happened during the reconstruction in the nineties, before the Michael Schumacher era, a race won would be enough to raise the spirits within the team.
“2021 marks the seventieth anniversary of our first Formula One victory. This season, I hope to win at least one Grand Prix. I don’t think I’m asking too much” – Drake’s son told the Resto del Carlino. However Piero Ferrari knows very well that it is difficult to fight reality without first facing it head on: “We don’t have to be afraid of reality. It must be accepted and if we do not like it we must work to change it. I would like to find proof in the races that await us that we understood what was wrong and that we know what to do to get back up. Certainly the road will be long, the run-up complicated. But we are Ferrari, we have to give a signal. Mattia Binotto is under scrutiny like everyone in Ferrari, it is part of our DNA” – he reiterated.
Words imbued with wisdom, perhaps thinking of that Mercedes which at the beginning of the renewed career in Formula 1 (2010) was not winning, taking some time before closing the gap: “Well done to them. I do not love those who do not recognize the merits of others. We at Ferrari have also had great cycles. Then if you are not winning and you see the cycles of others, you want them to end, it’s something normal. The rules will change completely in a year, everything will be different. And I hope it is a Formula One with a more understandable technology, less distance from ordinary people. We have to use the money we spend on racing to have more spectacular races, competitions that the general public can understand by getting excited.” – Piero Ferrari concluded.
