In addition to the exciting duel on track between Scuderia Ferrari and Red Bull, which provided more than one twist in the first part of the 2022 Formula One championship, as often happens in this sport, there is another off-track fight that is being carried out: the one at a political level.
As we all know, the International Federation has decided to intervene with a technical directive that will come into force in Belgium on the weekend of August 28 at Circuit de Spa-Francorchamps, which will regulate the vertical oscillations of porpoising and will look more carefully at flexible floor and their wear. But not only that, because for the 2023 F1 season, the Technical Committee has already approved some rather important changes to the height of the cars, which have definitely disappointed Scuderia Ferrari and Red Bull.
And it is no secret that these interventions on the floor are a helping hand for Mercedes, with Team Principal Toto Wolff making no secret of having pushed the accelerator to get what he wanted. The discussion now focuses on the fairness of the ‘shield’ invoked by the FIA on a basis of safety issue, given that these regulation changes are not considered to be linked to a real dangerous situation by the majority of the teams – we are talking about a 60% aligned against the Federation.
In addition to Ferrari team principal Mattia Binotto, who explained his point of view over the weekend in France, the vice-president of the Maranello company, Piero Ferrari, also wanted to hit out at Mercedes: “We will assert our reasons and we will oppose any exploitation. For years Ferrari had an engine deficit as compared to Mercedes. We didn’t ask for favors or shortcuts. We have lost with dignity, working in silence to recover and fight back. Our opponents should also behave like this, don’t you think? ”, He asked Italian journalist Leo Turrini, in a conversation between the two published by the Quotidiano Italian news website.

Finally, the “Commendatore”‘s son gave credit to the work of Mattia Binotto’s men for the strengths of the Ferrari F1-75 car: “As a company we are proud of what our racing department has achieved so far. We came from a difficult time. Now we have a car that can fight for the race win on every track. Of course there are things to improve, details to perfect, but this Ferrari Formula 1 car is very competitive. We are on the right path.” – Piero Ferrari concluded.
