In the graphics of the top 3 at the end of the first free practice session for the Monaco Grand Prix in Monte Carlo, Formula 1 “transformed” Piastri into Leclerc. But there’s a reason behind it all. The Monaco GP weekend kicked off with a curious social exchange, captured by F1 in the graphics at the end of first free practice session, involving Oscar Piastri and Charles Leclerc. It all started with a tweet from the Australian McLaren driver declaring on X that he was searching for a Monegasque relative in his family tree.
“If you want, I can adopt you,” was Charles Leclerc’s immediate response, sparking a playful back-and-forth between the two. From “looking forward to meeting my little brother Leo” (Charles Leclerc’s dog, who has become a social media star) to Oscar Piastri’s mom’s “I have a few questions,” fans on social media enjoyed this exchange.
It seemed to end there until Formula 1 decided to revive the topic at the end of the practice session. In the first free practice session, Oscar Piastri finished in second place, and in the graphic published by F1, he was renamed “Oscar Piastri-Leclerc.” Keen-eyed fans immediately noticed it, making it go viral within minutes.
Charles Leclerc himself responded to the top 3 photo with “mixed feelings in the Leclerc family after FP1s.” The Ferrari driver indeed damaged the underbody of his SF-24 due to debris left on the track by Zhou’s Sauber.
