During the Canadian Grand Prix, a peculiar incident took place in the pit lane that was not captured by the cameras: Ferrari mechanics were the protagonists of a… heroic act! But before understanding what happened, let’s take a step back to lap 13. George Russell completely misjudged the exit of turn 9 chicane, hitting the wall and damaging the right rear tire.
The British driver was still fortunate enough as the Mercedes mechanics managed to fix the car and get him back on track before the end of the yellow flag period. George Russell, the young Mercedes driver, eventually finished in nineteenth place.
However, the broadcast missed something when George Russell returned to the pit box. In fact, the right rear tire of his car was already in precarious condition. It remained hanging on the car while on the track and, as it arrived near the #63 garage, it detached and rolled into the middle of the pit lane. The Ferrari mechanics didn’t hesitate and with feline agility, they went to retrieve it. It should be noted that the Mercedes mechanics hadn’t even noticed the tire, letting it roll without even looking at it, as they were focused on fixing George’s car.
