Formula One journalist Peter Windsor shares his thoughts on Ferrari’s issues ahead of the 2021 Monaco Grand Prix, with Charles Leclerc who was not able to take part in the race due to a mechanical problem
Did Ferrari take a risk?
“Max Verstappen had a great start. He drove straight to the inside and therefore had the perfect line for the first corner. After the pit stop he was very good with the tyres and that showed how mature Max has become. He controlled the gap to Carlos, but never let him get within three seconds. In the later stages he also seemed to have more grip, so he could just drive away from the rest. That was really impressive.” – he explained in his review of the Monaco Grand Prix.
Peter Windsor was at Monaco this weekend and witnessed up close how not Charles Leclerc, but Verstappen went first through the first corner. The damage after the crash on Saturday turned out to be bigger than expected after all and Peter Windsor thinks there is more to it than that. “The interesting thing for me is, he already got a new gearbox on Thursday. I expect that if they were in doubt whether to replace the gearbox after Saturday, that the fact that it is basically a new gearbox played into the decision.” – the Formula One journalist concluded.
