Oliver Bearman makes Ferrari smile for the future: his race from the pit lane to P6 – Dutch GP
Haas left the Netherlands with an excellent haul of points. With both cars finishing inside the top 10, the American team climbed in the Constructors’ Championship and closed the gap to Kick Sauber. Esteban Ocon gave a strong contribution, but it was Oliver Bearman who truly stood out, charging from the pit lane all the way up to sixth place.
Oliver Bearman enjoyed a breakthrough Sunday at Zandvoort, turning what began as a difficult weekend into a race of real substance. Forced to start from the pit lane, the young British driver for Haas built his comeback intelligently, combining patience with consistently strong pace.
At the start he managed to stay clear of contact, before capitalising on well-timed strategy calls and maintaining a competitive rhythm that allowed him to climb steadily through the field. Even though the Safety Car phases did not always work in his favour, the 2005-born driver kept his focus and showed maturity in wheel-to-wheel battles, pulling off several decisive overtakes.
In the end he crossed the finish line in P6, the best result of his Formula 1 career so far. “Did I expect it? No, absolutely not,” he admitted after the race, commenting on his unexpected final position.
“We were definitely lucky today, but sometimes you need to be in the right place at the right time. The strategy calls were good, the car was fast, which of course is crucial. The guys did an excellent job and gave me a really strong car,” Oliver Bearman explained.
“We were a bit unlucky after qualifying, we had some setbacks which meant we had to start from the back. But finishing with points today feels really good. It’s especially rewarding because it was a tough weekend overall, so to give the guys and girls back at the factory this type of result is great,” he continued.
“And yes, it feels good to be back in the points. It was only a matter of time. The team has been working incredibly hard and I think we are getting there step by step. There are still things to improve. You know, even myself, I’m far from perfect, I’m still making too many mistakes, but we are on the right path and I have really high hopes,” the Ferrari junior concluded at the end of the Dutch Grand Prix
