After the tumultuous events of the Austrian Grand Prix, the FIA confirms its firmness at Silverstone, where this weekend the British Grand Prix will be held, the tenth round (eleventh, considering Imola) of the 2023 Formula 1 World Championship. In a statement published on its official website, the Federation emphasized that the violation of track limits in general, but especially at a specific point on the track, will result in the automatic cancellation of the lap time recorded by the driver. Here are race director Niels Wittich’s event notes published ahead of the first free practice session on track limits for this weekend:
“In accordance with the provisions of Article 33.3, the white lines define the track edges.
“During Qualifying and the Race, each time a driver fails to negotiate with the track limits, this will result in that lap time being invalidated by the Stewards.
“Additionally, during Qualifying and the Race, each time a driver fails to negotiate with the exit of turn 18 (the final corner), will result in that lap time and the immediately following lap time being invalidated by the Stewards.”
