The news was in the air, but it has now been officially confirmed by Red Bull Racing with statement published on their website regarding the departure of Adrian Newey, their long-serving Chief Technical Officer.
Adrian Newey will transition away from his design responsibilities to focus on Red Bull’s RB17 hypercar project, completing his tenure with the organization by the first quarter of 2025. Rumors surfaced last week regarding Newey’s decision to leave the team he joined in 2006, reportedly due to discomfort stemming from the handling of the investigation involving team principal Christian Horner at the onset of the 2024 season, an issue that was subsequently resolved.
While Adrian Newey’s contract was initially set to extend until the end of the 2025 season, the British media has learned that there are provisions allowing him to explore opportunities with other teams for the upcoming Formula 1 campaign.
Throughout the remainder of this season, Adrian Newey will continue to participate in select races before his official departure. The Formula 1 career of the illustrious car designer includes 13 Constructors’ Championships and 12 Drivers’ Championships, with several achieved during his time at Red Bull.
Notably, the British engineer led the development of the RB19 in 2023, which secured victory in 21 out of 22 races, setting a new win percentage record since McLaren’s dominance in 1988.
