Official: Formula 1 confirms Pirelli as exclusive tyre supplier until 2028. Pirelli extends F1 tyre contract to remain sole supplier until 2028.

Pirelli will remain the exclusive tyre supplier for the FIA Formula 1 World Championship until the end of the 2028 season. The extension became official after the FIA activated an option within the current agreement, adding an extra year to the original contract that covered the 2025-2027 period.

The Italian manufacturer will also continue supplying tyres exclusively to Formula 2 and Formula 3, ensuring continuity across Formula 1’s main support categories through the conclusion of the 2028 campaign.

The renewed agreement further strengthens one of the most significant and long-standing technical partnerships in motorsport. Pirelli has been part of Formula 1 since the championship’s inaugural season in 1950 and has served as the sport’s sole tyre supplier continuously since 2011.

The extension guarantees that the Italian company will continue playing a central role in the development of Formula 1 during a period of major technical evolution, including the arrival of new regulations and increasingly ambitious sustainability targets.

Stefano Domenicali praises Pirelli’s contribution

Formula 1 President and CEO Stefano Domenicali welcomed the extension and highlighted the importance of Pirelli’s technical expertise to the championship: “We have built an extraordinary history and partnership with Pirelli, relying for many years on their technical excellence and their constant focus on performance, innovation and sustainability,” Stefano Domenicali said.

“I am therefore very pleased that the FIA and Formula 1 will continue this relationship for another year. As we continue pushing the boundaries of the technical regulations further and further, Pirelli’s commitment to quality gives all the teams and categories it supplies the confidence of working with some of the most advanced tyres in the world.”

Stefano Domenicali also took the opportunity to thank FIA President Mohammed Ben Sulayem and Pirelli Executive Vice Chairman Marco Tronchetti Provera for their role in reaching the agreement.

“This extension represents another example of collaboration with partners of the highest calibre, whose expertise contributes to excellence and helps guarantee the best possible spectacle on track,” he added.

Pirelli celebrates another milestone in Formula 1

Pirelli Executive Vice Chairman Marco Tronchetti Provera expressed satisfaction with the extension and reflected on the company’s long history in Formula 1.

“We are delighted to extend our presence in Formula 1 for another year through 2028, thanks to the agreement reached with the FIA under the leadership of President Mohammed Ben Sulayem and with Formula 1,” Marco Tronchetti Provera said – “Last year we surpassed the milestone of 500 Grands Prix, overcoming and winning important technological and innovation challenges throughout our long involvement in the championship.”

He also emphasized that Pirelli’s role extends beyond simply supplying tyres.

“Pirelli is not just a supplier, but a strategic partner that has supported Formula 1’s continuous growth, the result of the joint work carried out by the Federation and the Promoter. Formula 1 represents the best possible laboratory for innovation, testing cutting-edge technical solutions and continuously improving research and development processes for the benefit of tomorrow’s road tyres.”

The agreement ensures stability for Formula 1 teams and drivers as the sport enters a crucial period of technical transformation. It also confirms that Pirelli’s experience and technological expertise will remain at the heart of Formula 1, Formula 2 and Formula 3 for at least three more seasons.
