Rain has thrown the weekend schedule into disarray at the Interlagos circuit: the officials have altered the start time for the F1 Brazilian Grand Prix.
It was a Saturday of frantic waiting in Brazil: nestled in their garages, teams waited for several hours for the green light from race control to start qualifying, which never came. Rain was the main factor affecting the regular conduct of the qualifying session in Interlagos. Often a feature of Brazilian weekends, the rain made its presence felt even in the hours leading up to the start time of Q1.
Heavy rain fell on the José Carlos Pace circuit in São Paulo. The new asphalt struggled to drain the water that continuously fell on the track, leaving the officials with no choice but to postpone qualifying to Sunday.
Changes to the race time in Brazil: the official F1 announcement
However, it was not only qualifying that faced schedule changes. The start time for the Grand Prix has also been modified: the lights will no longer go out at 18:00 Central European Standard Time, but at 16:30.
Race control wants to have the opportunity to race starting at 16:30, trying to take advantage of the few breaks in the weather that the Brazilian sky may allow.
The start of the Sao Paulo Grand Prix at the 4.309-kilometre Autodromo Jose Carlos Pace in Brazil will take place five hours after the rescheduled start of qualifying, which is now set for Sunday morning. Q1 will begin at 11:30 Central European Standard Time.
