Ferrari will have a new customer team starting in 2026, as the team Andretti—recently approved to join Formula 1—will use power units supplied by the Maranello squad. Following weeks of rumors, the confirmation came on the final day in Abu Dhabi, leaving no room for doubt.
Andretti will enter F1 in 2026, coinciding with the introduction of new regulations, as the pinnacle of motorsport welcomes an additional team. This will bring the number of teams on the starting grid to 11, with Andretti joining the current lineup after overcoming numerous hurdles to secure its place in the competition.
Ferrari-Andretti: the agreement is now official
Ferrari’s statement is brief but confirms that the agreement is multi-year and establishes Andretti as a customer team. This development is also expected to benefit Ferrari politically within the paddock.
“Ferrari NV (NYSE/EXM: RACE) (‘Ferrari’ or the ‘Company’) today announces a multi-year agreement starting in 2026 with Andretti Formula Racing LLC. The agreement involves the supply of power units and gearboxes to the racing team led by TWG Global and General Motors. This follows Andretti Formula Racing LLC’s receipt of written confirmation from the FIA – F1 that its entry for the 2026 FIA Formula One Championship has been accepted and approved.”
The 2024 season has just ended, but Ferrari is already looking to the future. On Tuesday, December 10, the post-season F1 tests at the Yas Marina Circuit in Abu Dhabi concluded, with Charles Leclerc setting the fastest time in his SF-24 during its final outing of the year.
It’s time for a pause, but the future begins to take shape starting tomorrow.
