The latter part of 2023 Formula 1 season should serve Scuderia Ferrari to find solutions and “practice” with an eye on 2024. Frédéric Vasseur has clear intentions for the team for a strong finish to the season, without any fear, and even hopes to challenge Red Bull.
The championship has returned to Milton Keynes, but behind Red Bull, the battle for the second place in the Constructors’ Championship is wide open. Furthermore, the weekend in Singapore has motivated and excited Ferrari and its team principal. They now want to create and seize every opportunity.
The focus is not on 2024 yet: there’s a Constructors’ Championship P2 at stake
“What you have learned, can it help in the upcoming races, or are you already thinking about 2024?” Federica Masolini asks the team principal of the Prancing Horse. Fred Vasseur’s response is clear and doesn’t involve giving up on the current season in favor of an all-in for the following year, as happened last year.
“No. Now we are focused on this season,” Fred Vasseur confidently responds. “We are competing with Mercedes for the second place in the championship, and everything we can bring in the upcoming races will be important,” he continues, announcing further upgrades.
The keyword is “pushing”: Fred Vasseur announces upgrades
“As we have seen, gaining a tenth can mean moving up 5 or 6 positions,” says Ferrari’s team principal. “This means we must continue to push both in the factory and on the track. It’s the best way to achieve success. If we can bring something else by the end of the year, we will,” he reveals regarding upgrades.
Putting Pressure on Red Bull to Repeat Singapore
Was Singapore just a one-time event for Red Bull? Fred Vasseur agrees, but the weekend at Marina Bay has piqued his interest: “Only a one-time event? Probably yes, today they did an excellent job. But by definition, I think Suzuka was the best track for them.”
Fred Vasseur looks with interest at the remaining races of 2023: “We will have other opportunities. Our goal will be to try to put some pressure on. If we do, they will make more mistakes, as happened in Singapore.” – the French manager concluded during the Japanese Grand Prix weekend.
