Current Formula One world champion Nico Rosberg has denied that he intends to make a comeback in the near future, putting an end to speculations regarding a possible move to Scuderia Ferrari for the 2018 Formula 1 season. Toto Wolff, executive director of Mercedes AMG Petronas, who oversaw the three-year intense rivalry between Nico Rosberg and Lewis Hamilton, last week suggested that he could imagine the German driver back in F1 for the next season, perhaps in the seat of a Ferrari car: “I think when he took the decision to retire it was because it was just too much. It was a very stressful year against probably the best driver in F1 and he felt, at that stage, exhausted. But he is 31 years old. If he is unlucky, he has another 70 years to go in his life! I will give you one [quote]: I wouldn’t be surprised if he changes his mind in a year and reappears in a Ferrari” – Toto Wolff said, thus immediately generating numerous discussions regarding the Maranello team’s line-up for next season.

The German retired from the sport after the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix back in 2016, where he won his first world title after an intense season against teammate Lewis Hamilton. Since leaving Formula One, Nico Rosberg has been seen posting frequently on social media about his new found life, as he spends most of his time with his wife Viviane and their daughter. They are also expecting another child later this year: “No, I really have finished my career. I am happy and proud of the results and the successes I have had. It fulfils me a lot. But it’s now in the past and I’m going to do new things. I’ve never thought about it but I’d probably say no.” – the former Mercedes driver explained, as reported by Germany’s Sport Bild.

And an experience in a different series, such as for example Formula E, is also off the table as far as Nico Rosberg is concerned, at least for the time being: “At the moment no. I am currently looking for other challenges. But who knows. Maybe one day in the future.” – the former Formula One driver concluded.
