New Scuderia Ferrari team principal Frederic Vasseur pointed out that it would be “arrogant” for him to to sweep into power at the Maranello team and decide to make major organizational changes from the very beginning.
Following his departure from Sauber-Alfa Romeo, the Frenchman took charge of the Ferrari Racing Division and met the media for the first time as Ferrari team principal, being present at the Fiorano circuit where Charles Leclerc and Carlos Sainz were involved in a “warm-up” test with the SF21 challenger, ahead of the pre-season testing session which takes place next month in Bahrain:
“I was clear with Charles (Leclerc) and Carlos (Sainz),” he said, when asked by the international journalists about team orders and drivers’ status next season – “They’ll have the same car and support. If we then need to favour one or the other at some point in the season, we’ll do that. There is no number 1 except for Ferrari.” – the new Ferrari boss added.
Frederic Vasseur, 54, confirmed for the Italian media that for the moment he doesn’t speak their native language “well” but the Frenchman has already been taking lessons for three weeks, point out that “I need it for team spirit”.
The most important thing is that Fred Vasseur was given the great, but also difficult opportunity of replacing Mattia Binotto, as the Italian manager had lost the confidence of the Ferrari senior management, following a series of mistakes during the last season, which prevented the Italian side from challenging Red Bull for the titles. Fred Vasseur confirmed he will not be in a hurry to make any major decisions.

“I don’t want to be arrogant making judgments about what happened in the past. I don’t know yet. The most difficult part of my job is to understand what has happened in the team in order to have a clear analysis and take action. Trust me when I say that this is an incredible challenge.” – he continued.
As a result, no immediate departures are expects from the technical department ahead of the 2023 Formula One season: “We are in discussions, trying to understand what happened to do a better job. But it is more a continuous improvement than big changes that from my point of view would not make sense. I believe in the people and we will try to get the best out of them in the best conditions for a better job.” – Scuderia Ferrari team principal Frederic Vasseur concluded.
