Carlos Sainz put an end to the run of retirements and arrived at the checkered flag in the 2022 Formula 1 Miami Grand Prix, scoring a third place finish to help Ferrari secure a double-podium at the Miami International Autodrome. The race in Florida is in fact the first that the Spaniard competed entirely since the Saudi Arabian Grand Prix. In fact, in Australia and Imola, his race had stopped after not even one lap.
The race, however, was not easy
Friday’s crash, alongside the fact that he had so few laps at this start of the 2022 Formula 1 season due to the early incidents in the previous races, affected his overall performance, with the driver reporting neck pain: “Honestly, I have been better” – the Ferrari driver admitted at the end of the race: “Obviously after the accident on Friday, at the start of the race I still had some pain in my neck. I knew I had to try to manage it and get away with it. I didn’t feel 100%. Perhaps it was also the fact that I had practically not raced the last two GPs.” – he said, as reported by ‘Planet F1’ portal – “I paid the price for a combination of these two factors. In some moments of the race I was unable to push 100%”.
Dehydration
As if that weren’t enough, according to what ‘Sky Sports F1’ journalist Ted Kravitz reported in his usual post-event analysis, there were also other elements that would have conditioned Carlos Sainz’s Grand Prix: “He couldn’t hydrate properly,” the Briton revealed. “The system that should have allowed him to drink during the race didn’t work and he was very dehydrated at the end of the race. Ahead of the podium celebrations, he even needed his physiotherapist Rupert.”
