Ferrari junior Oliver Bearman made a strong impression during his Formula 1 debut at the Saudi Arabian Grand Prix in March. However, his Formula 2 season has been challenging, leaving him 13th in the championship standings after five rounds.
Oliver Bearman’s performance has been hampered by his absence from both races in Jeddah due to his commitments with Ferrari. He was called up at the last minute to replace an unwell Carlos Sainz, which cost him a potential points haul as he was set to start on pole for the Feature Race.
The season’s start wasn’t kind to Ollie Bearman, as he failed to score in the opening round in Bahrain and managed only six points across the Australia and Imola weekends. Monaco provided some relief for the British driver. Despite qualifying 12th, he climbed to fourth in the Feature Race, earning 12 points and bringing his total to 18, still 62 points behind championship leader Paul Aron from Hitech.
Interestingly, Oliver Bearman, a Ferrari junior driver, is racing alongside Mercedes academy driver Kimi Antonelli at Prema. Both are potential candidates for the F1 grid next year. During the Monaco race, the two teammates had a notable on-track battle. Kimi Antonelli exited the pits just ahead of Oliver Bearman, and the pair fought aggressively through the Massanet and Mirabeau corners. At the Loews Hairpin, Oliver Bearman executed a clever ‘switch-back’ maneuver to overtake Antonelli, who ultimately finished seventh.
Haas has scheduled Oliver Bearman for six FP1 sessions as part of his preparation for a potential full-time F1 debut in 2025. He completed the first of these sessions at the Emilia Romagna Grand Prix earlier this month. These practice sessions offer Oliver Bearman a glimpse of what could become a regular occurrence next year as he inches closer to a permanent spot in Formula 1.
