The FIA has not yet published the official Formula 1 calendar for the 2020 season but a press release is expected for tomorrow, taking into consideration that the opening race scheduled for 5 July in Austria becomes increasingly imminent.
The delays are due not so much to the European season that is emerging more and more clearly, but the uncertainties regarding the GPs outside the Old Continent, with growing doubts for some events. It should come as no surprise, therefore, that the European race block should stretch to the detriment of GPs with city circuits (Baku, Sochi and Singapore) that could hardly guarantee the doors closed safely, as there are still no conditions for a reopening to the public.
The chances that Italy will have a second race, exactly as it will happen in Austria (Red Bull Ring) and in Great Britain (Silverstone), are now increasing. The ACI is studying whether it is possible to organize a race at Mugello after the Italian Grand Prix scheduled in Monza.
The Tuscan track owned by Ferrari would be ideal for a Grand Prix to be held behind closed doors, while it would be a problem with the public because of the difficult accessibility.
According to the information collected by Motorsport.com, Mugello can aspire at the organization of the second Italian race in the F1 calendar, while Imola would not be in a position to guarantee the lack of gatherings due it is location. FIA and Liberty are in a hurry to finalize a calendar for which all credible candidates are being evaluated, avoiding too many repetitions of the race on the same system in the fear that there may be a photocopied ranking one week to the other.
