In Formula 1 the political component, much more than in other sports, has a very important value for success. Like it or not, this has always been the history of the sport. Defining the rules, entering into alliances, exploiting the gray areas of the regulations: this has always been the goal of the top figures of this world and it does not matter whether they were managers, engineers or drivers. For this reason, even more so on the eve of a critical change in regulations such as that of the 2022 season, the list of the 100 most powerful and influential people in Formula 1 published by thepaddockmagazine.com site takes on particular interest. The ranking was calculated by evaluating four main areas: economic power, command, newsworthiness, and impact — a subjective measure that captures how important they are in their respective positions.
On the podium of this ranking sit the top managers of F1 and FIA: first is Greg Maffei, president and CEO of Liberty Media, who precedes Stefano Domenicali, equal role for F1. Third is the president of the FIA - for a few more months – Jean Todt. However, the placement of ‘partisan’ personalities is certainly generating greater interest. In fact, between the fourth and the eighth position, there are people in the top management of five of the ten teams. The order includes Ola Kaellenius, John Elkann, Dietrich Mateschitz, Lawrence Stroll and Luca de Meo, representing Mercedes, Ferrari, Red Bull, Aston Martin and Renault.

The presence of Ferrari team principal Mattia Binotto in ninth place is somewhat surprising. The Maranello team’s boss in fact overtook the historic opponent Toto Wolff, boss of the Mercedes team, who dropped to tenth position. ‘Only’ 17th Christian Horner, equal role of Mattia Binotto and Toto Wolff in Red Bull. In 12th place instead, immediately behind Ross Brawn, there is Lewis Hamilton. The seven-time world champion is the youngest in the top 18 of the standings and the only driver in the top 23 positions. Max Verstappen (24th) and Charles Leclerc (28th) also appear in the top-30. Carlos Sainz is also present in the top 100, in 78th place.
