Home » Monza, still a lot of work to be done post-Italian GP: what is missing for complete restyling

Monza, still a lot of work to be done post-Italian GP: what is missing for complete restyling. Modernization work at Monza will continue beyond the Italian GP.

Despite significant progress made in the past seven months, modernization work at the Monza circuit will continue beyond the early September Formula 1 Italian Grand Prix.

Resurfaced track, now focus on the grandstands
Monday, August 5, will be remembered as a very important day in the recent history of the Monza Autodrome, with the temple of speed, after receiving homologation from the FIA, finally reopening to the public and being ready to host the Formula 1 Grand Prix at the end of August and early September.

However, despite significant progress in the last seven months, which included the refurbishment of the curbs, track pavement, pit lane, and the renewal of three underpasses plus the construction of a fourth at the Vedano entrance avenue, modernization work will continue beyond September.

What is still missing? Besides the aforementioned works already completed, the main focus will now shift to the new grandstands, with ACI President Angelo Sticchi Damiani detailing the project during the reopening event: “We have dated removable grandstands, made of tubular steel.”

“Over time, we must aim to create grandstands that also serve as hospitality areas with dining facilities, air conditioning, and some with skyboxes offering even higher quality treatment, because this is where Monza faces competition.”

“Monza will win its battle with modernization interventions to offer spectators all comforts. Spectators come to Monza to experience this atmosphere and be not just spectators but participants in a great event.”

“Today, above the pits, there is a frame on which a tent is mounted for the Grand Prix. Assembling and disassembling it each time costs several hundred thousand euros, and we use it one week a year. The proposal is to create a permanent and attractive cover to give Formula 1 a space to use as a paddock club.”

Finally, Sticchi Damiani concluded: “We want to improve the quality of this facility. Formula 1 is Monza, and Monza is Formula 1. It is the oldest facility where a GP is still held.”
