Monza global excellence: not just F1, FIA awards it the highest rating
The Fédération Internationale de l’Automobile (FIA), the world governing body for motorsport and a global federation of mobility organisations, has announced that the Autodromo Nazionale Monza has achieved the maximum 3-star rating within the FIA Road Safety Index for its commitment to road safety management in its mobility-related activities, with the support of the ACI.
The President of the Federation, Mohammed Ben Sulayem, commented on the achievement, stating: “Road safety is a global challenge that requires large-scale action. Through the FIA Road Safety Index, we are giving organisations the tools to do so, protecting their employees as well as all road users. I am proud of the milestone achieved by the Autodromo Nazionale Monza, because it demonstrates how our sporting community can lead by example and promote meaningful change.”
Following the announcement, Geronimo La Russa, President of the Automobile Club d’Italia (ACI), also highlighted the importance of the recognition: “This is an important milestone that confirms the role of the Autodromo Nazionale Monza as a unique symbol of global motorsport: the Temple of Speed, the oldest circuit still active in Formula 1, the fastest on the World Championship calendar and one of the most beloved by drivers, is now also established as a model of safety, sustainability and responsible innovation.”
Developed by the FIA with the support of the FIA Foundation, the FIA Road Safety Index provides organisations around the world with a data-driven methodology to assess, manage, report and improve their impact on road safety. The Index helps organisations transform road safety commitments into measurable actions and concrete accountability, identifying risks, implementing targeted improvements and strengthening transparency in ESG reporting.
The 3-star rating demonstrates how safety is placed at the centre of its operations, with measures designed to reduce risks related to travel and to promote safe driving among staff and partners.
The Autodromo Nazionale Monza, known as the “Temple of Speed”, hosts the Formula 1 Italian Grand Prix and is one of the most iconic venues in international motorsport. The circuit located in the Brianza region has become only the second racetrack in the world to receive the 3-star FIA Road Safety Index recognition, following the success achieved in 2025 by another Italian facility, the Circuito Piero Taruffi di Vallelunga.
The FIA recognition further enhances a structured and concrete development path, placing safety at the core of corporate policies through dedicated procedures, awareness initiatives and monitoring tools aimed at reducing risks linked to travel and operational activities.
