Two victories in the first three races of the 2022 Formula 1 season with as many pole positions and three fastest race laps out of three with great pit stops and perfect strategies: the start of the new championship has been nothing short of amazing for Scuderia Ferrari, as evidenced by the current world rankings. In the Constructors’ standings, the Maranello team boasts 104 points, 39 more than Mercedes, which has 65, and 49 more than Red Bull (55) which remains Ferrari’s main opponent for the title, despite struggling with numerous reliability problems.
The Prancing Horse’s ‘clear path’ in the first three stages of the season was only ‘ruined’ by Carlos Sainz’s retirement in Melbourne on Sunday, while the Spanish driver had achieved podium finishes in Bahrain and Saudi Arabia.
A rocket start that surprised even team principal Mattia Binotto, especially regarding the numbers, as the Ferrari boss reiterated that although the victory in Australia was clear, he does not believe that the Italian side is so superior to the competition, but that at the moment it is simply working better at a level of set-up with regards specifically to the Albert Park race dominated by Charles Leclerc.
Former Ferrari president Luca Cordero di Montezemolo, who was in charge of the Maranello team in the last golden period marked by Michael Schumacher’ successes at the start of the last decade, expressed all his satisfaction for Ferrari’s return at the top of the sport, after several difficult year: “Seeing such a competitive Ferrari is a beautiful thing. Congratulations to Mattia Binotto and to all the guys on the team who worked very well, united and determined”, his words in today’s edition of Il Corriere della Sera, reported by formulapassion.it

Both Charles Leclerc and Mattia Binotto wanted to be cautious about the lead in front of the World Championship, while Luca Cordero di Montezemolo also wante to point out the skills of the Monegasque driver and agreed that Ferrari does well not to underestimate Red Bull and Mercedes’ potential and abilities to recover the gap during the season: “Charles Leclerc was able to demonstrate that he is a top-level driver. The season is long, the opponents will not sleep, but Ferrari could not have asked for a better start to the 2022 F1 season. Let’s continue like this!”.
