The 2026 Monaco Grand Prix has secured a major international recognition before a single Formula 1 car has even taken to the streets of Monte Carlo. The legendary race weekend has officially been voted the “Best Event in Europe 2026” by European Best Destinations, one of the continent’s leading tourism and travel platforms.
The result further strengthens Monaco’s unique reputation inside Formula 1 and confirms the Principality’s ability to remain one of the sport’s most iconic and prestigious destinations despite the constantly evolving modern era of Grand Prix racing.
The award was decided following a worldwide public vote involving more than 42,800 travellers and motorsport enthusiasts. Out of 257 major European events selected across sports, entertainment and culture, the Monaco Grand Prix emerged as the overall winner.
The recognition highlights not only the historical importance of the Formula 1 race itself, but also the extraordinary atmosphere that surrounds the Monaco weekend every year. Few sporting events in the world combine luxury, glamour, history and elite-level competition in the same way as Formula 1 does in Monte Carlo.
Why the Monaco Grand Prix remains unique in Formula 1
Every season, the streets of Monte Carlo are transformed into one of the most demanding and visually spectacular circuits on the Formula 1 calendar. Drivers race inches away from barriers while navigating famous sections like Casino Square, the Fairmont Hairpin, the tunnel and the harbourfront.
The event has become far more than a traditional Formula 1 race. European Best Destinations reportedly described the Monaco Grand Prix as a celebration of speed, prestige and Riviera lifestyle, an image that continues to attract celebrities, sponsors, luxury brands and Formula 1 fans from across the globe.
Even in an era where Formula 1 is rapidly expanding into new international markets like Las Vegas, Miami and the Middle East, Monaco continues to preserve a level of prestige few events can match.
The race weekend has also evolved into one of the sport’s biggest commercial showcases, blending motorsport with luxury tourism, hospitality and entertainment in a way that remains unmatched anywhere else on the calendar.
Monaco could play key role in Formula 1’s new era
The 2026 Monaco Grand Prix, scheduled between June 4 and June 7, is expected to carry even greater importance than usual. The race will become the first European round of the Formula 1 season following the championship’s opening flyaway events outside Europe.
At the same time, Formula 1 is entering a completely new technical phase, with fresh regulations, new car concepts and major power unit discussions already reshaping the future of the sport.
That combination could make Monaco one of the defining moments of the early 2026 Formula 1 campaign. Teams will arrive in Monte Carlo still trying to fully understand the strengths and weaknesses of their new-generation cars, while drivers face one of the toughest circuits possible for extracting confidence and precision.
For Ferrari, the event may also represent an important opportunity. The slower-speed characteristics of the Monaco circuit traditionally reduce the impact of engine deficits and place greater emphasis on aerodynamic grip, mechanical balance and driver confidence — areas where Charles Leclerc and Lewis Hamilton could potentially become serious contenders.
Monaco still defines Formula 1 prestige
Despite constant debates about overtaking, modern Formula 1 priorities and the place of Monaco in the current calendar, the Principality continues to demonstrate why it remains irreplaceable for the sport.
The latest recognition once again confirms that Monaco is not simply another Grand Prix weekend. It is a global sporting and cultural event capable of transcending Formula 1 itself.
As the championship prepares to return to Monte Carlo in 2026, the message from fans and travellers appears clear: Monaco remains the benchmark for prestige, atmosphere and worldwide attention in modern Formula 1.
