Who is leaving and who is coming
It seems that the chaotic period created within the FIA by the controversial resignation of former Vice President for Sport Robert Reid has come to an end. Reid left his position two weeks ago, explicitly criticizing President Mohammed Ben Sulayem, his concentration of power, and his management of the federation’s decision-making processes. Robert Reid’s departure was also commented on with regret by the GPDA (Grand Prix Drivers’ Association) of Formula 1 drivers.

Central Role
The appointment was made directly by FIA President Mohammed Ben Sulayem. However, FIA members will still need to vote on Malcolm Wilson’s nomination at the Extraordinary General Assembly in Macao in June 2025.

The Vice President for Sport is one of the highest and most significant elected roles within the FIA. Whoever holds this position becomes part of the World Motor Sport Council and has a broad range of responsibilities, including the development of global policies for motorsport in collaboration with FIA Commissions and national sporting authorities, as well as promoting safety, sustainability, and innovation within the sport.
