Bernie Ecclestone and Christmas cards: an endless tradition
For many years, Formula 1’s Christmas has been ‘enriched’ by a delightful constant that never failed to bring a smile to fans and insiders: the traditional Christmas card drawn by the former Formula 1 boss, Bernie Ecclestone.
Even after being ‘deposed’ from his role as the undisputed ruler of Formula 1, Bernie Ecclestone always enjoyed highlighting in his Christmas card the controversial, discussed, and debatable aspects of the sport he helped modernize. In recent years, for example, he targeted race stewards and their excessive zeal in enforcing respect for track limits, but over the years, numerous themes have been sagaciously and ironically addressed by the British manager.
Nothing exciting
This year, however, the predictability of a season dominated far and wide by Red Bull and Max Verstappen, along with some personal events that have undoubtedly affected him—most notably, his admission of guilt in the UK tax fraud case—has drained his imagination. Perhaps this is precisely the more venomous than usual barb aimed at Formula 1.

“I’m sorry I couldn’t think of anything exciting this year that was worth drawing. That’s why I wish all of you a peaceful and happy end of the year, and I hope that 2024 brings only good things and that the world becomes a bit more stable,” reads Bernie Ecclestone’s ‘letter.’ This message was perfectly grasped by Helmut Marko, Red Bull’s longtime consultant, who commented to Auto Bild: “We received a big slap from Bernie for Christmas.” – he pointed out.
