Let’s take a look at the minimum speed for each lap of the 2023 Formula 1 Azerbaijan Grand Prix, which was held last Sunday at the Baku City Circuit and was won by Red Bull’s Sergio Perez, ahead of his teammate Max Verstappen and Scuderia Ferrari Monegasque driver Charles Leclerc, who secured the first podium of the season for the Maranello team:
Nico Hulkenberg and Esteban Ocon did a great job managing an entire race on a single stint: they were quick in the straights thanks to the low drag, producing good laptimes.
However, the worn tyres made them slowest in the slow corners: they had the lowest average minimum speed! (Circled in red)
Global race pace:
The Red Bull duo of Sergio Perez and Max Verstappen were matched: just 0.02s/lap difference on average! About 1s on a race distance!
Three other battles between drivers who had extremely close pace:
Charles Leclerc vs Fernando Alonso
Lewis Hamilton vs Carlos Sainz
Lance Stroll vs George Russell
Nico Hulkenberg and Esteban Ocon’s pace was damaged by doing a single stint
